She/he develops and manages internships in sectors that meet students’ interests.
He or She works as a team with other Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) staff to provide students with educational and career resources, support and guidance.
Major Duties: Facilitate skill/competency-building employment/internship preparation classes and workshops for students in the YABC.
Provide job and career counseling to students.
Support students’ growth by providing continuous feedback and resources to meet the student’s needs.
Collaborate with advocate counselors and social worker.
Recruit students to participate in the LTW internship opportunities.
Monitor LTW students to facilitate greater retention on internships.
Develop internships (in person and/or remote) in diverse range of employment fields, to match students’ skills, maturity levels, and experience.
Provide guidance to employers on maximizing internship experiences by working effectively with adolescents.
Facilitate seminars for students that focus on building students’ skills in semester long preparation classes at YABC.
Facilitate workshops on employment/Internship readiness to students.
Assist with out-of-school issues and provide crisis intervention as needed Track, evaluate and report on multiple aspects of program operations.
Meet regularly with staff from other LTW sites to share learning, compare approaches and develop new program ideas.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelors’ degree required.
1-2 years of experience working with adolescents/youth adults in education/employment relate fields required.
Strong group facilitation or teaching skills required.
Statistical and narrative record keeping accountability preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Experience developing internships for youth preferred.
Ability to work with diverse staff and students and network with diverse employer constituents.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development perspective.
