Overview: The Transportation Safety Manager will be responsible for having a clear understanding of DOT, Fleet, Company, Departmental, and general Safety compliance laws/policies.
This position requires close collaboration with the Transportation and Operations teams, as well as other key stakeholders throughout the organization on all matters related to the safety and compliance of Baldor’s Transportation division.
This includes monitoring trends and conducting analysis of safety data including motor vehicle accidents & incidents, risk mitigation activities, and training.
Responsibilities: Implement Transportation Safety strategies across the company to ensure consistent driver safety policies, procedures, and programs are in place to reduce exposure to transportation risk.
Monitor personnel injury reports & collaborate with stakeholders on workers compensation claims.
Work with regulatory agencies to ensure that regulatory compliance is achieved.
Draft and implement transportation safety programs and policies to ensure driver safety and mitigate exposure to transportation risk.
Advise and direct the Transportation Safety Team on functions necessary to execute safety programs and driver adherence to policy.
Conduct accident analysis to determine trends and associated costs.
Collaborate with Transportation and Operations on disciplinary programs related to transportation safety in accordance with company policies and requirements.
Develop, modify, and maintain accident (DOT and Non-DOT), subrogation, & litigation logs as required.
Manage online training platform for all new transportation hires & existing employees.
Collaborate with leaders and conduct safety training with new hires & existing employees.
Assist preparation and training of quarterly meetings.
Work with the Transportation and Routing Group to help identify stops that are difficult or require special instructions, helpers, or equipment to safely complete.
Conduct internal investigations for motor vehicle and safety-related accidents by taking statements and conducting review of systems including dash cam, GPS, and other resources.
Process and submit all relevant accident details and documents to carriers and monitor claims.
Respond to significant accidents as a representative of Baldor Express Transportation to law enforcement.
Create and maintain a training curriculum based on accident statistics.
Acquire and maintain driver safety equipment from vendors.
Liaise with company counsel on open litigation.
Assist in any other related duties or projects as assigned.
Requirements: Business/Industry - Knowledge of industry-specific principles and processes for providing customer service.
This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of correlations between customer service and safety standards.
Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Data Analytics/Presentation- Ability to independently create data analytics reports, interpret data, create presentations, and conduct presentations/training to a variety of stakeholders including drivers and management.
DOT/Fleet Compliance -Knowledge of DOT compliance principles including commercial vehicle regulations-FMCSA, Driver Qualification Files, OSHA standards, and Workers Compensation.
Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, data analytics and presentations, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Valid Driver’s License (CDL not required) with a satisfactory driving record.
Ability to independently research and interpret compliance safety codes, policies, and laws.
Experience and Skills: A minimum of 5 years in the transportation industry focused on fleet and general safety.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to multi-task and work independently as well as contribute to the overall success of the team.
English and Spanish proficiency.
Technology Skills: Safety tools - FMCSA Website, Supervision, Lens, Travelers Website, SMG, SafetyPlus, Fleet GPS Systems Customer relationship management CRM software Project management experience with Microsoft Lists & Microsoft Planner, or similar platforms.
Microsoft Office suite - Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, Microsoft Planner Video conferencing software – Microsoft Teams, Zoom Work Environment: Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
